The award ceremony of two human rights activities held on January 28
A ceremony to award the winners of human rights knowledge contest and outstanding writings of Human Rights magazine was held on January 28 in Beijing.
Jointly sponsored by the China Society for Human Rights Studies (CSHRS), Guangming Daily and Human Rights Magazine, the test questions for the human rights quiz contest were run in the Guangming Daily on November 19, 2007. Up to the deadline of December 25, 2007, the organizing committee received a total of 5,639 effective responses from across the country. Winners were chosen by lot from the top 500 scorers, including 5 first prize winners, 20 second prize winners, 50 third prize winners and 100 souvenir prize winners.
The selection of outstanding writings for the Human Rights magazine was presided over by the magazine. Starting from August 2007, a panel composed of human rights experts and scholars chose 3 first class winners, 6 second class winners, 12 third class winners and 15 nominations from 135 finalists selected from all the published works from the first issue of 2002 to the fourth issue of 2007.
The two activities in commemoration of the 5th anniversary of the launch of Human Rights magazine were aimed to promote public understanding of Chinese outlook of human rights and achievements in the field, spread human rights knowledge and enhance people's human rights consciousness.
Present at the ceremony were Qian Xiaoqian, deputy director of the Information Office of the State Council, Ye Xiaowen, Li Junru, Chen Shiqiu and Dong Yunhu, CSHRS vice-presidents, and Gou Tianlin, editor-in-chief of Guangming Daily, who also presented the awards to representatives of the winners.
