China, African nations hold symposium on poverty reduction

SHENZHEN, Jan. 9, 2012 -- A symposium focusing on poverty-reduction cooperation between China and African nations opened in the southern Chinese city of Shenzhen on Monday.

During the three-day event, more than 50 government officials, scholars and entrepreneurs from China and African nations as well as representatives of international groups will discuss how to alleviate poverty.

"China is willing to share its experiences with other developing countries, especially African countries, to promote international cooperation in this regard and common prosperity," said Zheng Wenkai, deputy director of the State Council Leading Group Office of Poverty Alleviation and Development.

The symposium was organized by the International Poverty Reduction Center in China, the United Nations Development Program and the Shenzhen University.
