March 16, 2010 -- "I am a delegate from the grassroots and the amendment to the Electoral Law adopted by the National People's Congress (NPC) embodies that the central government pays attention to democracy and equality," said Kelzang Drolkar, a woman deputy from Tama Village, Chengguan District of Lhasa.
According to Kelzang Drolkar, located at the suburb of Lhasa, her village has developed in serving the city such as opening shops and hotels except for planting crops. Nowadays, the per capita net income of local villagers is 6,700 yuan, about 2,000 yuan higher than the average net income of rural people in China which is released by the government's work report (4,761 yuan). In addition, people in her village are enjoying new houses, medical insurance and free compulsory education.
As a descendent of the serfs, Kelzang Drolkar engages in agriculture. "I am chosen by the villagers and I am a cadre for them," she said.
"As for my 3 sons, one is studying in the Tibet University, one is studying in the South-Central University for Nationalities and another one is working for the Qinghai-Tibet Railway,"Kelzang Drolkar felt proud when mentioning her sons. |
