CPC opens National Congress to map China's next five years

Hu sets goal of quadrupling per capita GDP under environment, resource restrictions

Hu Jintao said in his keynote report to the 17th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) on Monday that the Scientific Outlook on Development initiated by the 16th CPC Central Committee in 2003 is part of the theories of Socialism with Chinese characteristics that stands along with Deng Xiaoping Theory and the important thought of Three Represents.

China's per capita GDP is expected to be quadrupled by the year 2020 as against 2000, Hu Jintao said in his report to the 17th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) on Monday.

Hu Jintao called on the 73 million members of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and the Chinese people on Monday to hold high the "great banner of socialism with Chinese Characteristics" in their strive for building "a moderately prosperous society in all aspects."
