A total of 2,220 deputies will hear and examine the reports by CPC Central Committee and CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection. They will also elect new members to the 17th CPC Central Committee and CPC's Central Commission for Discipline Inspection.

The new Central Committee will elect members to the Polit-Bureau of the Central Committee and its Standing Committee as well as the General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee.

After the election within the Communist Party of China, the upcoming 1st Session of the 11th National People's Congress (NPC), due to be held in March 2008, will elect new leadership to the Chinese government.
