The Olympic horses will live in the lap of luxury.

The Hong Kong Jockey Club has made every effort to provide a spacious and comfortable environment for the horses.

They are housed in temperature controlled quarters, with 23 degrees the ideal indoor temperature. High ceilings and special air vents provide good air circulation. The stables are big enough for the horses to stretch out and relax.

And the competition venue ties in with the green theme of the Beijing Olympics.

Tony Shea, Manager of Jockey Club Olympic Stables said "These equine walkways and stall interiors are made of recycled tyres. They prevent the horses from slipping and hurting themselves."

Horse welfare is a top priority.

The equine hospital near the main competition venue has a wide range of diagnostic facilities. The horses' physical condition is checked several times a day to ensure they are in top form.

All horses arriving from overseas must strictly follow quarantine regulations. During their ten-day quarantine in Hong Kong, they are vaccinated and undergo daily vet check-ups.

The Olympic equestrian events will begin on August ninth in Hong Kong.
