Over 10 mln affected by floods in S China, 132 dead
As of Sunday morning, more than 10 million people in south China's nine provinces have been affected by severe floods, the Office of State Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters (SFCDRH) said Sunday. Mud flows and floods triggered by the intense rainstorms that started mid-June have left 132 people dead and 86 missing and prompted the evacuation of 280,000 people in nine provinces, including Fujian, Jiangxi, and Hunan provinces.

Vice premier Hui Liangyu urges flood control efforts
Chinese Vice Premier Hui Liangyu on Friday urged local governments to strengthen flood control efforts and try all means to save the people endangered by the disaster. Millions affected by rainstorms, floods in S China
The heavy rains that began pounding southern China regions Sunday had as of 10:00 a.m. Thursday left 46 dead, 50 missing and millions of local residents affected, the Ministry of Civil Affairs said. Flash floods and landslides caused by the heavy rains have brought about casualties and economic loss in 74 county-level cities in six southern provincial-level regions, including Fujian, Guangdong, Hunan, Jiangxi, Guangxi and Sichuan, the ministry said in a notice on its website Thursday.

China sends working teams to assist flood control in rain-battered regions
China's State Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters (SFDH) has sent four working teams Monday to help flood control in provinces and regions pounded by heavy rains that triggered floods and mud slides. OIC chief condoles with China over floods victims
The Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) Secretary-General Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu condoled Sunday with China over the deaths caused by torrential rains that hit the southeastern parts of the country.
