World IP Day 2011 - Activity Reports:
Antigua & Barbuda In conjunction with Anjo Insurances (a division of A.W.H. Holdings Ltd.), the Antigua and Barbuda Intellectual Property and Commerce Office is running a logo competition for secondary school students. The competition will run from March 7 to April 9, 2011. It is anticipated that the winning logo will be registered as a trademark by the Antigua and Barbuda Intellectual Property Office for use by Anjo Insurances. Monetary prizes and certificates will also be awarded to the top three winning entries.
Argentina La Secretaría de Estado de Innovación y Desarrollo Tecnológico (SIDETEC) de la Provincia de Tucumán organiza un “Café Científico” con la disertación de la experta Dra. Belarus The National Center of Intellectual Property is organizing a series of events to boost intellectual property (IP) awareness. A WIPO Outstanding Inventor Award will be given to Mr. Andrei A. Duzhev for outstanding achievements and his contribution to the economic and technological development of Belarus. A WIPO Trophy for Innovative Enterprises will also be awarded to the B.I. Stepanov Institute of Physics, National Academy of Sciences of Belarus for its contribution to research and scientific development and its active use of intellectual property.
Ireland The Junior Inventor Awards 2011 competition by the Irish Patent office aims to encourage primary school children to be innovative and to cultivate interest in science and engineering at an early age.
Luxembourg L’Office de la propriété intellectuelle du Ministère de l’Economie et du Commerce extérieur du Grand-Duché de Luxembourg organisera le 26 avril 2011 une conférence intitulée “Marques, dessins et modèles : usages et lutte anti-contrefa?on”. Malaysia Malaysia is to organize a number of activities to promote awareness about IP as a means of promoting creativity and innovation in Malaysia. It will also run its annual National Intellectual Property Award scheme for those inventors and creators whose IP has contributed to the country’s socio-economic development.

Paraguay El Ministerio de Industria y Comercio del Paraguay organiza una serie de eventos en el marco del “Día mundial de la Propiedad Intelectual” en la semana del 25 al 2 9 de abril de 2011 con el objetivo de transmitir un enfoque de los derechos de propiedad intelectual no sólo desde puntos de vista empresariales y jurídicos sino como una herramienta importante para el fomento de innovaciones tecnológicas en la sociedad.
El programa incluye una serie de actividades como charlas informativas, seminarios, exposiciones y paneles sobre temas de PI, apuntando a la participación de estudiantes, funcionarios, profesionales, empresarios y emprendedores involucrados en el tema. Un panel trata de los trabajos que se están realizando en el ámbito del Comité de Derecho de Autor (SCCR), más específicamente exponiendo la iniciativa de un proyecto de Tratado de la OMPI sobre un mejor acceso para discapacitados visuales y otras personas con discapacidad.
Romania In cooperation with the Ministry of Culture of Romania, The Talk4U Literary and Copyright Agency is organizing Sinectico on April 27. The event will feature a series of public debates on a range of issues , including e-book rights, translations, the future of books and education, literary genres and their chances of survival, the agency model, understanding consumer behavior, the responses of libraries and book shops to the digital age.

United Kingdom The Law Society of Scotland and the Faculty of Advocates have organized a lunchtime World IP Day 2011 conference on Thursday 21 April in the MacKenzie Building, Old Assembly Close, High Street, Edinburgh, sponsored by Scottish Society for Computers and Law and Hewlett-Packard. Speakers include: Ken Green, Metis Partners, Glasgow and Andrew McLean, William Grant & Sons Limited, Glasgow. The event will be chaired by Roisin Higgins, Advocate and IP law specialist and Graeme McWilliams, Legal Adviser, Standard Life.
Robert Gordon University, Aberdeen (Scotland) Undergraduate law and management students at the Robert Gordon University, Aberdeen are celebrating World IP Day with an exhibition of posters designed by them on the topic, ‘Copyright in the digital era’ focusing on issues they regard as ‘key’ in the current debate. The posters will be on display in the university library from 26th April until the end of May
