Beijing uses film to train Paralympic volunteers

BEIJING, February 18, 2008 -- The organizers of the volunteer program for the Beijing Olympic Games are using a new film to teach the volunteers for the Paralympic Games.

The 100-minute teaching material includes the etiquette norms, the psychological characteristics of the persons with a disability, and the skills to help them.

The cameramen began shooting the film on February 16, and the organizers said they will distribute the discs based on the material to the volunteer organizations or individuals later.

The film will be a supplement to the textbooks prepared by the Beijing Organizing Committee for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad (BOCOG) to train volunteers of the Paralympics, the Beijing Youth Daily quoted a BOCOG staff member as saying. BOCOG is in charge of hosting both the 2008 Olympic Games and Paralympic Games.

The Beijing Olympics need about 100,000 Games-time volunteers, including 70,000 for the Olympics scheduled from August 8-24, 2008, and 30,000 for the Paralympics from September 6-17, 2008. The number of applicants has far surpassed the number required.
