Retired experts of less popular languages join Olympic volunteer service

BEIJING, Dec. 12, 2007 -- A conference to encourage retired foreign language experts to participate in the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games volunteer program was held Tuesday at the China Foreign Languages Publishing and Distribution Administration (CFLPDA).

BOCOG officials, including Volunteer Department specialist Wang Fengjiang and International Relations Department Deputy Director Li Lingwei, attended the conference and had an audience with Guo Xiaoyong, the administrative deputy director of CFLPDA.

Among the 96 retired experts interviewed for the volunteer program, the eldest was 76 years old. The experts represented more than 20 languages, including Arabic, Bengalese, Romanian, Indonesian, Sinhalese, Persian, and Swedish.

Aiming to develop language volunteer resources for the Olympic Games, the conference comprehensively mobilized retired experts to participate in the games services and Olympic Games preparation and boosted the recruitment of language service volunteers in CFLPDA.
