BEIJING, January 9, 2008 -- By February 6, the day of the Lunar New Year festival, the posts of the Games-time volunteers from Beijing to serve at the Beijing Olympic Games will be confirmed, according to Liu Jian, director of the Volunteers Department of the Beijing Organizing Committee for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad (BOCOG).
By March, the selection of the Games-time volunteers will end, he told a BOCOG meeting on Tuesday.
His statistics show that so far the applicant pool has hit the 800,000 mark, and 80 percent of the volunteers required for the Games-time service have been confirmed.
BOCOG has planned to recruit 100,000 Games-time volunteers, including 70,000 for the Olympic Games (August 8-24) and 30,000 for the Paralympic Games (September 6-17).
The confirmed volunteers have passed general and specialized training respectively. All volunteers working for the Good Luck Beijing sport events have undergone venue and on-post training. In the meantime, training has kicked off for the teaching staff of the volunteers for the Beijing Paralympics.
Both the venue managers and the managing staff of the volunteer sources are responsible for the management of the volunteers.
During the Good Luck Beijing sport events in 2007, various groups of clients spoke highly of the volunteers' services. |
