Scene of the meeting
BEIJING, February 14, 2008 -- Liu Jian, chief of the office of the Beijing Olympic Volunteer Work Coordination Group and secretary of the Beijing Youth League Committee; Shen Qianfan, deputy director of the office of the Beijing Olympic Volunteer Work Coordination Group and vice secretary of the Beijing Youth League Committee paid a visit to the volunteers for the forthcoming 16th FINA Diving World Cup from Tsinghua University.
Volunteers from Tsinghua, one of the major universities providing volunteers serving the Good Luck Beijing pre-Games events at the National Aquatics Center ("Water Cube"), won wide praise from the public. They finished their service work until February 5, two days before the Lunar New Year.
In order to ensure that volunteers are able to spend the Lunar New Year with their families, the BOCOG Volunteer Department moved to ease their thirsty for tickets. For those unable to go home, the department hosted a variety of activities at the New Year's Eve.
The university helped volunteers with their food, shopping, medical service and transport during the holiday.
The 16th FINA Diving World Cup will open on February 19. Volunteers from Tsinghua have canceled their holiday and backed to Beijing in advance.
A total of 1213 volunteers will devote themselves to serving the World Cup at the "Water Cube."
Mr. Liu Jian extended his best wishes to these volunteers and gave them telephone cards to make phone calls to their families.
A volunteer from Tsinghua said:" The winter holiday is shorter, but much more meaningful." |
