CHICAGO, May 25, 2012 -- Loyola University Chicago (LUC) students and faculty joined the Chinese Consulate in Chicago Thursday for a special lecture on Tibet, where experts shared their thoughts on Tibetan history and culture.

Tibet has been a part of China since the thirteenth century A.D., said Zhang Yun, head of a delegation of Tibetan experts from China's Tibetology Research Center, which is now visiting the United States.

Although there were some confusions following Britain's intervention in China in history, China has always governed Tibet, Zhang told Xinhua.

The professor said he hoped the U.S. students to learn more about China, by perhaps visiting it themselves, as some Americans have misunderstandings about the oriental country.

In addition to the Tibetan history, Zhang also introduced a tremendous economic development in China's Tibet Autonomous Region and how labor migration has increased the interactions between local ethnic groups.

Zhang and his colleagues were welcomed by LUC President Michael Garanzini and dozens of students and faculty who attended the lecture.

The delegation has given lectures at Stanford University and Columbia University.
