China-U.S. human rights dialogue to be held in late July, Kunming

July 29, 2013 (chinahumanrights.org) -- According to the mutual agreement reached in the fifth round China-U.S. Strategic and Economic Dialogue, China and the U.S. will hold their 18th human rights dialogue on July 30 and 31 in the city of Kunming, Yunnan Province.

Li Junhua, the director-general of the Department of International Organizations and Conferences of the Chinese Foreign Ministry, and Uzra Zeya, Acting Assistant Secretary for Democracy, Human Rights and Labor will jointly preside over the dialogue.

Both sides are willing to talk about the new progress they have achieved in the human rights field and the relationship between human rights protection and national security, exchanging views on issues like international cooperation in the human rights field, the judicial guarantee and human rights, freedom of expression and privacy protection.

Both of China and the U.S. want to have a constructive communication based on mutual respect and equality, to promote the development of human rights in the two countries.
