December 18,2014   By:Xinhua

UNITED NATIONS, Dec. 18, 2014 -- The UN Security Council on Tuesday strongly condemned the "depraved and savage terrorist attack" on a school in Peshawar, Pakistan, which killed 141 people.

In a statement, the Security Council reiterated its condemnation of violations and abuses committed against children by terrorists and welcomed the ongoing efforts of the people and officials of Pakistan to protect schools and school children.

A total of 141 people -- 132 students and nine staff members -- were killed and 133 others injured in Tuesday's terror attack at an army-run public school in Pakistan's northwest city of Peshawar. The Pakistani Taliban have claimed responsibility for the attack.

The council commended the Pakistani government's resolute efforts to counter the menace of terrorism, saying that this or any other attack by the Tehrik-e-Taliban would only strengthen their resolve to support the people of Pakistan and to fight terrorism.
