UNICEF concern over devastated conditions of Syrian children
January 14,2015   By:Xinhua

GENEVA, Jan. 14,2015-- The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) on Tuesday highlighted the devastated living conditions of Syrian children affected by the conflict in the country.

Estimates by UNICEF showed that at least 7 million internally displaced and refugee Syrian children are in desperate need of assistance.

It noted that many of them continue to live in unfinished buildings and inadequate shelters that expose them to sub-zero temperatures, heavy snow and strong winds amid the harsh winter.

"Given the access constraints and extreme weather conditions, we've managed to accelerate our winter response in order to reach as many children as possible," said Maria Calivis, UNICEF Regional Director for the Middle East and North Africa, in a statement.

Meanwhile, UNICEF appealed for more resources from global donors and supporters to ensure its humanitarian work to continue.
