July 6, 2017 -- “China has set a good example in desertification control for the world,” said Monique Barbut, Executive Secretary of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD).
“Chinese control of desertification pays much attention to the balance among ecological system, economy and people,” she added.
“In the past 30 years, China has turned Kubuqi Desert, once called ‘the sea of death’, into a vast oasis through a series of plans, which can apply to many areas in the world,” according to www.independent.co.uk on Sunday.
It reported that representatives and leaders from different countries will attend the 7th Kubuqi International Desert Forum to find solutions for growing global desertification later this month.
The forum will discuss the case of “green wall” by China’s Elion Group in prevention of the desertification of a 6,000-square-kilometer land.
Ms. Barbut said that China’s experiences and solutions to restore degraded lands and combat desertification can benefit more initiatives including Africa’s Great Green Wall initiative.
