An exhibition featuring 100 pictures and 18 cultural artifacts attracted many visitors on July 20 in London. West China is a lesser-known region compared with some metropolises in east China, said Joseph Ollie who used to work in China for years. He has visited Chengdu, Sichuan province and was impressed by people’s hospitality there. He hopes to visit Tibet in the future.

Meanwhile, a cultural exchange activity was held in University of London to introduce the latest economic development in Tibet.

Rinchen Lobb, vice secretary-general of Foreign Exchanges Association in Tibet Autonomous Region, said that the GDP of Tibet reached about 115 billion yuan in 2016 while the figure was just 174 million yuan in 1959. The total road mileage has reached 82,500 kilometers and a modern and complete education system has been established.

Roger Croston, member of the Royal Society for Asian Affairs, said the exchange is necessary and will help to understand the economy, religion, culture and environment protection in Tibet. He hopes that more exchanges will be held between Tibetan and British scholars.

As two important representatives of eastern and western civilizations, China and the UK have seen hundreds of years’ history of cultural exchange. This event has offered a chance to British people to take a closer look at the diversified cultures of China, said Lu Wei, deputy head of the Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China Central Committee.
