Sept.15,2017--“China has been playing a vital role in the United Nations and I expect China to play a bigger role in the global multi-polar system and international affairs,” said Miroslav Lajcak on Wednesday, the newly inaugurated president of the 72nd Session of the UN General Assembly.
President Lajcak said he highly recognizes Chinese president Xi Jinping’s “one for all and all for one” idea in international partnerships and China’s proposal of building an international order of multilateralism with the UN as the core.
“I have always believed in the power of multilateralism. Since every member state has its own national interests and concerns, it has never been easy for the UN to reach an agreement. My responsibility is to tell the member states that it is much better to unify as one than to split,” said the former Slovak foreign minister.
As the new president of the UN General Assembly, Lajcak will focus on maintaining sustainable development, guaranteeing the implementation of climate change agreements, promoting human dignity and modernizing the UN system.
