September 18, 2017 -- The seminar titled “The Philosophy and Practice of Right to Peace in China”, which was co-sponsored by China Society for Human Rights Studies (CSHRS) and the Publicity Department of Jiangsu Province and organized by the Party School of Central Committee of Communist Party of China (CPC) and Nanjing University, was held on September 11 in Nanjing University.
“The right to peace is a new concept. The first seminar on it in China means the right to peace has been included into the promotion and protection of human rights,” Liu Cheng, director of the Institution of Peace Studies at Nanjing University, said in an exclusive interview.
As one of the initiators to study the right to peace in China, Professor Liu pointed out that the right to peace involves two aspects. At the national level, each country holds the right to address issues by peaceful means instead of waging wars. At the individual level, every person enjoys the right to subsistence, development, education and health to live in a peaceful environment free from the threat of war.
“The right to peace combines Chinese traditional culture, philosophy and thoughts of peace with China’s development practices and has won international recognition,” said Professor Liu.
In building a community of shared future for mankind and pursuing global common development, China is taking the lead in promoting the right to peace.
Professor Liu believes that the importance of the right to peace will win more recognition and contributes to global development.
