May 18, 2017 -- The international community should pay more attention to sexual violence in conflict-affected areas and take practical measures to protect the vulnerable, said Wu Haitao, Chinese ambassador to the UN.
We should take peaceful means to prevent and solve military conflicts and root out sexual violence, Wu said.
The countries concerned take the main responsibility for protecting women and children. The international society should respect the measures adopted by those countries according to their real conditions, and meanwhile provide constructive assistance to boost their security, economy and governance capabilities, said Wu.
More efforts should be made to promote cooperation in combating terrorism and transnational organized crimes, urged Wu.
Wu also called for the UN peacekeeping forces to enhance their awareness of women and children protection.
Wu promised that China will continue to work with the international society to combat sexual violence in conflict-affected areas and build a safe, stable and peaceful international environment.
