June 20, 2017 -- A sideline meeting themed "Promotion of Human Rights: Role of Poverty Eradication" was held by two Chinese Non-governmental Organizations (NGOs) during the 35th session of the United Nations Human Rights Council at the Palais des Nations in Geneva on Friday.

Liu Kaiyang, deputy Secretary-General of the China NGO Network for International Exchanges, said that poverty is a common challenge faced by the international community, and poverty eradication is an important way to promote and protect human rights.

"Non-governmental organizations around the world will contribute more to strengthen the international cooperation in poverty reduction by sharing their experiences," he added.

Wang Xiaolin, a researcher at the China International Poverty Reduction Center, pointed out that more than 800 million people in China have shaken off extreme poverty in the past 30 years, which is a remarkable achievement in poverty reduction and human rights development.

Liu Wenkui, Secretary-General of the CFPA, said that the foundation has carried out a series of disaster emergency rescue operations and international development assistance projects in 18 countries and regions around the world since 2005.

Heads of world charitable associations recognized China's leadership and experience in international poverty reduction, urging that the international community should strengthen cooperation and work together to eradicate poverty.
