July 17, 2017 -- Zhang Yingying, the 26-year-old Chinese visiting scholar at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign was believed dead, according to the United States Department of Justice Wednesday.

Data from the subordinate of Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) shows altogether 88,040 people were filed missing but little progress was made as to the end of 2016.

It is reported that 80,000 to 90,000 people go missing every year.

Studies show that abduction crimes are rampant in the U.S., of which 90 percent of the criminals are male and half of the victims suffer from sexual assault.

According to Business Week, most of the abducted children who are ultimately murdered are dead within two to three hours of the abduction.
