UNITED NATIONS, March 22, 2018 -- UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Wednesday welcomed the safe return of most of the 110 Nigerian girls abducted by suspected Boko Haram insurgents in February, said his spokesman.
The UN chief reiterated his calls for the immediate and unconditional release of all remaining missing girls and for their safe return to their families, said Stephane Dujarric, the spokesman, in a note to correspondents.
Guterres urged national authorities to swiftly bring those responsible for this act to justice, said the spokesman.
The 110 girls were abducted during an attack on an educational institution in Dapchi Town, Yobe State, on Feb. 19.
The Nigerian government on Wednesday announced the release of 101 girls and said it paid no ransom to secure the release of the girls.
