April 8,2018--The Information Office of the State Council Tuesday held a news conference in Beijing to publish a white paper “China’s Policies and Practices on Protecting Freedom of Religious Belief”. Chen Zongrong, former deputy director general of the State Administration for Religious Affairs, said China’s religious policies has been keeping developing and innovating with stability and continuity.
Firstly, China has stable and continuous religious policies. Since the reform and opening up in 1979, China has been unswervingly pursuing a basic religious policy that people’s freedom of religious belief is protected by laws.
Secondly, China’s religious policies have been keeping developing and innovating. Regulations on Religious Affairs amended in 2016 upholds the principle that religions in China must be Chinese in orientation and provide active guidance to religions so that they can adapt themselves to the socialist society.
