April 8,2018--The Information Office of the State Council held a news conference Tuesday in Beijing to publish a white paper “China’s Policies and Practices on Protecting Freedom of Religious Belief”.
China’s laws on religious policies boast four distinct features, said Chen Zongrong, former deputy director general of the State Administration for Religious Affairs.
The first feature is objectivity. The laws take religion as a common phenomenon in human society and give full respect to religious believers.
The second one is fairness and equality. The laws treat all religions equally without discrimination.
The third one is balance. The laws protect not just the freedom of religious belief, but also the freedom of unbelief.
The fourth one is comprehensiveness. The laws also serve as a weapon to combat illegal belief and extremism.
