Oct. 11, 2018 -- The Academic Conference to Commemorate the 70th Anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) is being held in north China’s Tianjin from October 11 to 12.

With the theme of “the drafting process and subsequent influences of the UDHR”, the conference attracts some 30 experts on human rights from home and abroad.

Experts agree that the UDHR has played an important role in protecting human rights globally in the past 70 years, serving as a guidance for countries and regions with different legal and cultural backgrounds to better protect their people’s human rights.

Organized by the Centre for the Study of Human Rights at Nankai University, the conference discusses topics including the historical contribution of the drafters of the UDHR as well as the debates and compromises during its drafting, the historical influence of the UDHR on the postwar developments of international human rights, and the contemporary significance of the UDHR while coping with various new challenges.

The UDHR, which was adopted on December 10, 1948, is the first international document on people’s basic human rights in history.
