Overseas scholars, media outlets condemn radical violent crimes in Hong Kong
November 19,2019   By:Xinhua
BEIJING, Nov. 19, 2019 -- As rioters continue to wreak havoc in Hong Kong, foreign scholars and media outlets have condemned their radical violent crimes for severely damaging Hong Kong's prosperity and stability while expressing their support for the Chinese government's stance on the Hong Kong affairs.

Mark Cigoj, editor-in-chief of the Croatian weekly 7 Dnevno, said violent crimes in Hong Kong have disrupted people's normal life, and the chaos is hurting Hong Kong's economy, with potentially devastating consequences.

Ibrahim al-Ameri, lecturer of politics at Iraq's Baghdad University, said the Hong Kong people are paying a high price for the violent crimes, which have seriously undermined Hong Kong's economic development and social stability.

Al-Ameri said the most pressing task for Hong Kong now is to end the violence and restore order, adding that Hong Kong is part of China and plots of external forces are doomed to failure.

Selcuk Colakoglu, director of the Turkish Center for Asia Pacific Studies, said radical violent activities have challenged and undermined the order and the rule of law in Hong Kong as well as its financial and economic interests.

Julio Yao, professor of international law at the University of Panama, pointed out that there are also ulterior motives for some external forces to meddle in Hong Kong affairs.

Yao said some Western forces intend to use violence in Hong Kong to sabotage China's efforts of maintaining a fairer and more reasonable world economic system.

Ana Gojanovic, president of Priredba, a leading Croatian public relations company, said peace and order must be restored, only by which can Hong Kong continue its growth.
