China Eradicates Extreme Poverty: UN discusses poverty eradication and human rights

China has shared its experiences in its fight against poverty, during an online session of the UN Human Rights Council, discussing the role of poverty alleviation in protecting human rights. CGTN's Cao Bing has this report. 
Officials and leaders have gathered online for the 46th session of the UN Human Rights Council to discuss poverty alleviation and protection of human rights. A spokesperson from China's Rural Vitalization Bureau attended the event, sharing the country's experiences via video message in which she said "people" were always first and foremost on the road out of poverty.
SU GUOXIA Director-General, General Affairs Department China National Rural Revitalization Bureau "We've pursued inclusive development, protecting the rights of women, children, the elderly, disabled, and ethnic minorities. They are key groups, and we've taken special care of them. We've especially worked to help women. Poor women improved their capability to run their own businesses, and subsequently help others earn an income."
An official from Sierra Leone called for efforts to empower adolescents and give them a stronger voice.
SONNIA-MAGBA BU-BUAKEI JABBI Director of Demographic, Health and Social Statistics Research and Innovation of Sierra Leone "Improving access to quality education and vocational training, increasing children's and adolescents' voices, monitoring expenditures, strengthening district level plans and budgets, building child responsive budgets and institutionalizing mobile technologies to support voice and participation."
A UN official also underscored the importance of poverty alleviation.
