Aug. 4, 2022 -- A five-day exhibition of intangible cultural heritage around the country has opened at the Xinjiang Art Museum in Urumqi, Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region.

The exhibition is a cultural exchange between Xinjiang and 19 other provinces and regions that joined hands with the regional government to boost Xinjiang's development.

The 328 examples of intangible cultural heritage on display include 193 items from the 19 provinces and 135 items from the region and Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps.

It is a visual and artistic feast that covers theater, crafts and music. Items include tricolored glazed pottery from Henan province (tangsancai); flower lamp making from Chaoshan, Guangdong province; and shadow plays from Hubei province.

"Through this event, we hope to unite different forces in building a beautiful Xinjiang and show the unity of the Chinese nation through culture," said Arken Toniazi, chairman of the region.

The exhibition covers a total area of 5,000 square meters, with seven different sections. It will run until Thursday.

"It is a really diverse show. The iron technique from Jilin province impresses me the most," said Bai Xiamin, a resident from Urumqi. "The meaning of intangible cultural heritage is not only about inheriting but also exchanging, to make it vital."
