30 years after the adoption of the UN Declaration on the right to development, under development remains a reality. The aim of this paper is to seek solutions for the realisation of the right to development (RTD). It argues that this can be realised through international cooperation with the BRICS in the driving seat. The BRICS which have the necessary geographic location, the appropriate size in terms of population and economic power as such has the necessary ingredients to transform the human rights discourse into RTD informed standard. The paper finds that to realise the RTD through its poverty eradication objective, the BRICS can make a difference in the context of inter BRICS countries cooperation, the BRICS actions in global fora and the BRICS nations and multiple memberships in other groupings.
