Gov't works to curb imports of infections
China has taken scientific and active measures to curb cases of novel coronavirus pneumonia being imported from overseas as the epidemic continues to worsen internationally.
At a news conference held by the State Council's joint prevention and control mechanism on March 1, Lin Wei, an official at the General Administration of Customs, said that it has adopted strict measures on entry-exit epidemic control including requiring to submit a declaration of health to screen people with epidemic symptoms.

China allows reopening of nursing homes in coronavirus low-risk regions
Nursing homes for the aged in regions at medium and low risk of coronavirus spread have been allowed to resume services step by step, provided that containment measures are put in place, China's Ministry of Civil Affairs said on March 5.
Priority should be given to the elderly who are not able to live independently and willing to check in a nursing home and those who live without a caregiver because their children are working as part of the epidemic control efforts or under quarantine, the ministry said.

Chinese authorities have been improving health education services for migrant workers to strengthen their awareness and ability of epidemic prevention amid the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) outbreak, an official said on March 7.
As China organizes transportation for migrant workers to return to work, multiple measures will be taken including body temperature monitoring before traveling, said Yang Wenzhuang, an official with China's National Health Commission.
The return of migrant workers should be arranged in accordance with the different risk levels of various regions, Yang said, stressing that migrant workers do not need to pay for health certificates or tests and no extra financial burdens should be placed on them.

China to improve medical waste disposal capacity across the country: official
A recent official plan requires each prefecture-level city to build at least one standardized medical waste disposal facility by the end of this year, an official said on March 10.
By the end of June 2022, every county should have built a complete system involving the collection, transportation and disposal of medical waste, said Zhao Qunying, an official with the Ministry of Ecology and Environment (MEE), at a press conference.

Report indicates narrowing income gap between men, women in China
The overall salary of working women in China is 17 percent lower than that of men, but the income gap is rapidly narrowing, according to China Women's News on March 12, citing the latest report on the employment status of Chinese women.
The report, jointly released by cnwomen.com.cn and a leading human resource service provider zhaopin.com, showed that the income gap between men and women has been narrowed from last year's 23 percent to 17 percent based on this year's survey data.

Xinjiang to lift remaining 42,000 households out of poverty in 2020
Northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region will eradicate absolute poverty in 2020 by lifting the remaining 165,800 people from 42,000 households out of poverty and taking 10 counties off the poverty list, according to a press conference on March 12.

Imported cases face tougher measures
As an increasing number of inbound travelers to China have been confirmed to be infected with CO-VID-19, many regions on the Chinese mainland are taking tough measures to avert a secondary spread of the virus from imported cases.
The mainland reported 20 new confirmed cases on March 14, with 16 of them from abroad, according to the National Health Commission. Imported cases totaled 111 as of March 14 since first appearing last month.

Border quarantine rules apply to all nationalities: judicial officials
Any Chinese or foreign citizen or stateless person who impairs frontier quarantine measures while entering or leaving China shall be equally held accountable in accordance with Chinese laws, officials with the Supreme People's Court and the Supreme People's Procuratorate said on March 24.
