Comprising Taiwan natives residing in the mainland, the TDSGL was founded in Hong Kong on November 12, 1947 by a number of public figures from Taiwan Province. In 1948 it declared support for the New Democratic Revolution led by the CPC.

In September 1949 it attended the First Plenary Session of the CPPCC in Beijing, participating in drawing up the Common Program.

Since New China was founded, the TDSGL
